We were a lot closer to 1 000 meters (1 km) today. Today we made it 1 018 meters.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned that 1 kilometer has 1000 meters in gym today.
How did you show what you learned?
We got into 10 groups, after 100 clicks on the trundle wheel (which equalled 100 meters), we yelled STOP and gave the trundle wheel to the next group. We repeated this 10 times (until we walked 1000 meters). We did this to mark the Terry Fox Run route for Wednesday morning.
What do you need to learn next?
We actually only walked 921 meters and the route needs to be 1000 meters long. Tomorrow we want to find a spot to add 71 meters. We think we need to stay closer to the fence line.We think we should add more meters at the beginning of the route near the baseball diamond or we want to try and walk all the way to the portable before we turn to the soccer posts.

We learned that at the end of summer and early fall, a queen wasp will lay eggs (including a new queen) which hatch before winter.
How did you show what you learned?
We have a wasp nest in our classroom - don't worry most of the wasps are dead and we have a lid on the container so we can observe their behavior.
What do you need to learn next?
We want to know more accurate information about the behaviors of wasps, specifically the queen.

Mrs. Saunders is away Monday (a sub will be in). She gets to go to Democracy Boot Camp put on by CIVIX - The same group who runs Student Vote.

We learned to paint the 4 zones of the forest using watercolors.
How did you show what you learned?
We sketched the trees from our Special Nature Spot and came inside to do the watercolor wash.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how to paint the trees and do the next layers of our painting.
Why is there so much garbage in the Whispering Woods? What can/should we do about it?
How old are all those trees?
Can we throw a stick at the wasp nest? Just kidding - but when can we take the wasp nest down and examine it in our classroom?
