We used meter sticks to find the length and width of 2 sides in Barrett Park and Whispering Woods. Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned our grid from Friday needed to be a perfect square in order to have an accurate measurement.
How did you show what you learned?
We drew a square in our notebook. It needed be 10x10, 20x20 or 25x25.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to apply our understanding of scale to our future drawings.

3 - Scholastic Book Orders due Wednesday

To view our video from today, have a peak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNdFDzQzqPk

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned how to grid a 1 meter area like an archaeologist. We applied our understanding of scale to the grid we created. Ask me what scale I used to show the 1 meter square.
How did you show what you learned?
We worked in teams and used a meter stick, string and popsicle sticks and measured a 1 meter square area of Whispering Woods.
What do you need to learn next?
We struggled to find exactly a meter, so next time we want to bring out 4 meter sticks or use a protractor to find exactly 90 degrees for the right angle. It also helps to use a bird's eye view for a better estimation.
We struggled with using the popsicle sticks as they were the same color as the forest floor. So next time we want to use darker sticks or find things that are taller so we can identify the markers more easily. It also helps to clear the area where you're working.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We went to Nose Hill to create our small sketch of a landscape. We learned we needed to letter and number the grid in order to accurately enlarge it later. We are using this mathematical skill just like one of the Group of Seven artists, Lauren Harris, used.
How did you show what you learned?
We drew a small scale scene of a landscape from the top of Nose Hill.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to 'blow up' our sketch and recreate the scene we saw today.
