Week 1 - Welcome Back

Room and 6 and 7 Students:

This week’s learning plan is as follows:

1. Please answer these questions and email by Wednesday, April 1st:

Please discuss with your parents answers to the following questions and then prepare one (1) email to reply to your homeroom teacher: vipedenko@cbe.ab.ca or mlsaunders@cbe.ab.ca 

In the email, please let us know the following things:

1. How are things going? What have you been up to?  

2. What is your family plan for learning-from-home? When do you think you will do your schoolwork? Where do you plan to do your school work? What challenges do you think you may encounter with learning from home?  

3. ***What technology can you use for school work (eg. Computer, laptop, iPad, tablet etc.)? Do you have access to the internet? Is your only option a paper-based learning package? 

4. ***Do you have access to a printer?  

5. Are you able to log-in to your Google account? You will use your email address ending in @educbe.ca and your school password (just like logging-in to the Chromebooks and Laptops at school).  
6. Can you login to Raz Kids?
7. Can you login to Mathletics?

3) Read 20 minutes every day - this can be ‘read to self’ or ‘read to others’

4) Play a math game or work on your basic facts - Grade 5 practice up to 9 x 9 and Grade 6 practice up to 12 x 12. You can make your own flashcards to practice

Saturated Solution Day

Agenda:

1) Treat Day has been postponed til later after March Break

2) Karen Gummo will be back with us next Wednesday - this is her final day. 

3) Chess Club will continue on Wednesdays at lunch - next week is the last week

Literacy: Ask me about what happened in chapter 5 of  Hoot?
Also, how to write a lead paragraph for a News Article. What are the 5 W's? 
Science: Ask me about Saturated Solution. How do you create a saturated solution?  How is a solution different from a Mixture? What does dissolve mean?

Agenda

1) Thursday is our Math/Science Curriculum night from 5 - 7pm. Feel free to bring your cans and bottles on this evening to place in our School Recycling Bin.

3) Karen Gummo will be back with us next Wednesday - this is her final day. 

4) Chess Club will continue on Wednesdays at lunch - next week is the last week

5) Simon Fraser Musical - is next Tuesday - March 17th. The grade 5/6 classes will walk down to view the presentation

Math: Ask me about our Balance problems - come and do some of your own tomorrow during curriculum night. 

Science: Ask me about the curriculum night ... tomorrow... Thursday March 12!

Social: Ask me about early exploration and about the resources that were first found? 

U of C Math Visit - So, is it better to go first or second?

1) Skiing and Snowboarding will continue on Monday for our last lesson. Students can bring some money for a small item on Monday if you and your parents want to do this. Don't forget to dress for the weather - wear layers to manage the changing temperatures! And make sure your progression card is still attached to your snow pants or jacket.

2) Chess Club is on Wednesdays at lunch
3) Thursday is our Math/Science Curriculum night from 5 - 7pm. Feel free to bring your cans and bottles on this evening to place in our School Recycling Bin. 

4) Hoot Chapter 3 questions - except for the Venn Diagram - due on Tuesday

5) Room 6's Treat Day is on March 17th

6) Karen Gummo will be back with us on Tuesday or Wednesday

Stuffie Day

Agenda

1) Skiing and Snowboarding will continue next Monday for our last lesson. Students can bring some money for a small item on Monday if you and your parents want to do this. 

2) All grade 6s will go to Simon Fraser for a Jr. High tour tomorrow. The grade 6s will leave at 11:45 and will return to the school around 2 pm. They will be provided a hot dog lunch.
3) Chess Club is on Wednesdays at lunch
4) We will have a decimals quiz tomorrow
5) Sign and return your fractions quiz - also correct any errors you might have. 

6) Math Guest speakers will be joining us on Friday
