How was this evidence of a chemical reaction?

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We observed a chemical reaction while doing 'elephant toothpaste.'
How did you show what you learned?
We observed a temperature change and saw bubbles when the catalyst (yeast) was added. It was no as impressive as the one on the link above.
What do you need to learn next?

First Nation Mytths

Agenda:
1 - Find a piece of what you consider to be art (bring it if you are able to)
2 - Who is Vermeer? What is so important about his paintings?
3 - Next week is a short week.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned that it can be easier to read a little bit off your script but not memorize it. This makes the story more natural.
How did you show what you learned?
We would say what we remember, say 'cut' and then look back at the script and tried not to be too hard on ourselves.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to edit our iMovie as well as do voice overs.

How did you show what you learned?
We worked with Karen Gummo and we got a chance to practice.
What do you need to learn next?

Carrots and Celery.... Let's eat!

Agenda:
1 - Field trip to Mount Royal University tomorrow
2 - Winter Walk day in the afternoon (time permitting)
3 - Look around your home for what you consider to be art. Bring the item to share with our class, if possible.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We revisited the idea that oil and vinegar do not mix unless you temporarily shake it or use an emulsifying agent, like dry mustard. The dry mustard will create a coating around the oil droplets which allows the oil and vinegar stay mixed together and creates a salad dressing which many of us liked.
How did you show what you learned?
We mixed 60 mL oil, 15 mL vinegar and 3 mL of dry mustard. We stirred the dressing and dipped in carrots and celery.
What do you need to learn next?
We wonder what other items would work as emulsifying agents and allow oil and vinegar to temporarily mix.
Lessons we still want to do:
Elephant toothpaste
Friendly Cleaner
Coke and Mentos
Periodic Table of Room 7
