Tied up in knots OR Orange you glad we learned about maps OR Baking Bannock

Agenda:
1 - Dr. Coffin Craft A Fair is on Saturday 10 - 3 in our gym!!! Share this with family and friends. Bring your non - perishable food item if you'd like. Don't forget Mother's Day is right around the corner so you might be able to find a great gift idea!

2 - Math - Mr. P - finish both sides of the math homework
Mr. P and Mrs. S - have a test next Tuesday on Primes, Composites, Multiples and Factors. 

3 - Please bring your item for our Room 7 basket for the Family Dance by May 5th.
4 - Volunteer tea is next Thursday (please give your parents your invitation)
5 - Sign your science test for Monday

Bannock Recipe
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp vegetable shortening or butter
1 pinch of salt
1/4 cup water


Mix dry ingredients together. Add water. Knead dough. Pat into a flat square. Cook in oven at 450 for approximately 10-15 minutes. Serve with jam and butter.

We participated in a skill building day. We learned from Mr. L about thinking critically when we look at maps, we learned how to follow a recipe while making a traditional first nation bread called bannock and we learned how to tie a variety of knots which we can use with our shelters. 
How did you show what you learned?
We worked with experts in each field who were passionate about their skills. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to take these skills up to Nosehill and find ways to apply these skills to our real life.

We began with a teacher read aloud and we can each get our own copy from the school library or bring our copy from home.

We need to try and read the whole novel by the end of June!!!

What did you learn today?
We have nearly finished Chasing Vermeer. We learned about building suspense in our own writing. 
How did you show what you learned?
We used the Magic of threes and Red Flag Words. We also noticed that Blue Balliett does this often in her writing. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to continue listening for examples and try writing our own Suspense for a picture prompt tomorrow. Also, we are going to start the novel The Hobbit and will be able to identify ways in which JR Tolkein develops details and creates suspense.

We used this knowledge to create questions with 4 potential answers for our Time Travel Game.

We need to share these questions and see if others could survive as members of our tribe. Also, we need to focus our research on specific shelters.

Hula, Hula Hoop

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned the hula-hoop relay race in gym today. It was our student teachers' second lesson.  
How did you show what you learned?
We needed to hold hands in a circle and move the hula hoop all the way around the circle without letting it touch the ground. We worked as a team and tried to beat our previous time. 
What do you need to learn next?
We could try a new technique so we can be faster. We look forward to learning more relay races and having the student teachers teach us more lessons.
