Sherlock's Leaf Fight

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned about the Boy Sherlock Holmes and his other novels. We also learned about the stages in the writing process.
How did you show what you learned?
We attended Shane Peacock's seminar about his books and how to write a story. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to add his advice to our own stories and we need to continue reading his first Sherlock Holmes book., The Eye of the Crow.

Truths and Lies

Agenda:

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We received some statements from Jade Summers and Tom Wood. They both told the truth about what actually happened with the crime that was committed. 
How did you show what you learned?
We wrote down the facts about the crime and the confessions we heard. We recorded these ideas in our detective notebook. We tried to piece together the rest of the crime. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to look further into the DNA information. We need to corroborate these 2 statements. We need to read their witness statements. And finally, we need to tie the evidence to the suspects and determine the guilty parties.

We Are On the Case!

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We went to the Police Interpretive Center and learned about Online Safety, Healthy Relationships and Drugs and Alcohol. We also learned more about the forensics of our crime and are getting closer to solving the car fire crime. 

How did you show what you learned?
We matched finger prints and shoe prints with different suspects. We matched the unknown fibre as a cheetah hair. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to create our Self Care List, identify our ways of saying No when approached in situations that make us uncomfortable. 
We need to identify the person or people who committed the crime.

We looked at the footprints and really had to identify the accidental characteristics in order to find our match. 
How did you show what you learned?
We created a sentence after we made the matches. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to go to the Police Interpretive Center .... TOMORROW!!!!!

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We looked at different footprints today. One of which was from the fire fighters boot. We needed to look at Class and Accidental Characteristics to determine which impression was the fire fighters. 
How did you show what you learned?
We used the information in our detective notebook to compare the 5 different foot prints found at the scene. We needed to use Class and Accidental Characteristics to identify the differences. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to determine the source of the footprints and go to the Police Interpretive Center on Tuesday.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We learned about the compounds of soil and the nutrients in the soil that different plants need to grow. We learned about the different types of soil and different plants that grow in different places in the world. 
How did you show what you learned?
We played a variety of learning games in the Agrium Seed Survivor trailer. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to water our sunflower and can visit the website to play the games we saw today.

What did you learn today?
We have begun to use forensic science to process the evidence at our crime scene. 
How did you show what you learned?
We wrote down the evidence found at the crime scene, we viewed pictures of the evidence and looked at fibers and hairs to try and identify them. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to add this growing evidence to our parade board in the hallway.

We learned that there are many steps to solving a crime.
How did you show what you learned?
We watched a slide show provided by the CPS and reviewed the steps - Secure the area, Don't contaminate, process the evidence, gather the suspects, Link evidence to suspects, Draw conclusions and prove in court. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to apply these steps to our car fire crime.

What did you learn today?
We each got a glow stick and some elastics to experiment with what different sounds we could make. This was our kick-off to our Beakerhead Challenge - using science, innovation and music to create something new. 
How did you show what you learned?
We used regular materials to create sounds. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will be putting these items together and as a school make a 30 second video to submit to Beakerhead.
