Chair Lifts are Tricky!

Agenda:
1- Read 20 minutes each night - You can use Raz kids if you have an account. 

2 - Social Studies quiz is Thursday

4 - Math booklet - finish all the rest of the questions on the back of page 3

5 - Vermeer write up is due by lunch tomorrow

What did you learn today?
We learned it is important to persevere even when things are hard or we fall.  
How did you show what you learned?
We kept getting up when we fell and we asked for help from our coaches too. 
What do you need to learn next?
We would like to take more lessons when we get a chance although the season is almost over. 

Sweating Buckets

Agenda:
1 - Read 20 minutes each night - on Raz Kids too if you are signed up

2 - March 19 and 20 - Grade 5/6 Ski and Snowboard field trip - if you are choosing to bring your own equipment Please label all of your equipment and bring it to room 7 on Monday. Your lift ticket and progression card will be given out on Monday. Please wear the coat that you will be wearing for Tuesday and Wednesday as you will only receive one ticket!

mittens/gloves x2 (because the first pair will get wet)
goggles or sun glasses
Flat toque or balaclava to go under the helmet
Helmet - if you want WinSport will provide the properly rated helmet.
Dress in layers - check the weather and decide what makes sense
Snow pants - this is what we will attach your lift ticket to!!! You MUST wear the same snow pants both days.
Bring a backpack - your items will go in there, your extra clothes, also your lunch and water bottle. Also, any needed medications.

Your clothing = long johns, warm socks 1 PAIR ONLY (bring an extra pair), fleece or hoodie to have extra layers

Your food and water = have a bigger breakfast then you might be used to, bring extra food, snacks, high protein, microwave free and can bring money ($5.00ish)

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
Some of us learned how to ski/snowboard for the first time. 
Some of us used the chair lift for the first time. 
Some of us tried riding switch on our boards.
Some of us tried boot skiing for the first time. 
Some of us went on a chair lift for the first time with a snow board on. 

How did you show what you learned?
We spent of our first of 2 days at Winsport with our instructors and classmates. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to challenge ourselves and continue to develop our skills.

Ski/Snowboarding Starts tomorrow

Agenda:
1 - Read 20 minutes each night - on Raz Kids too if you are signed up

2 - March 19 and 20 - Grade 5/6 Ski and Snowboard field trip - if you are choosing to bring your own equipment Please label all of your equipment and bring it to room 7 on Monday. Draw a stick person labelled with all the necessary clothes, gear,etc.

Happy 3.14 Day!

6 - Fresh Air Friday - Please come dressed to snowshoe with our little buddies. We want to have fun and be great role models so dress well.

We learned about Pi because today is March 14th
How did you show what you learned?
We had 2 students present indpendent projects about Pi. These projects included diagrams, images and even songs! Ask me to share one of the songs with you. 
What do you need to learn next?
Some of us are illustrating the first 50, 100 digits of Pi and some of us are even trying to memorize the first 10 digits! WOW!!! Mrs. Saunders has trouble with 10 digit phone numbers ;-)

Baby Oil Smells Nice

We learned how to put on snowshoes and how to walk in deep snow with them on. 
How did you show what you learned?
We worked with a partner and shared a pair of snowshoes. It required a lot of patience and perseverance as we kept having to fix them and share them. 
What do you need to learn next?
We would love a chance to do these with our little buddies and have another chance ourselves.

Jungle Safari

Also, we will use the baby oil with our Vermeer paintings - so pease come dressed in not your best outfit!

What did you learn today?
Our grade 6s learned about the different options that you can take at Simon Fraser - Their open house is tonight and so is Tom Baines.
How did you show what you learned?
Our Grade 6s walked down to Fraser and had lunch. They toured the school and learned lots about this Junior High option. 
What do you need to learn next?
We could attend the open house and we need to finish our year leaving a legacy at Dr. Coffin - what legacy do we want to leave? And for our Grade 5s what legacy do we want to set up for next year?

4 - Tomorrow - 11:45 - 3:00 - Grade 6s will be walking  to Simon Fraser for the Transition Day. They will have their hot dog lunch first and then participate in the Transition Activities for the remainder of the afternoon.

We learned how to make a black out poem 
How did you show what you learned?
We chose a page from a discarded book and we chose certain words to make a poem and then coloured in the rest with black = Black Out Poetry
What do you need to learn next?
We will make a second one and add designs to our work. Also, we look forward to an opportunity to read our poems to each other.

Final Stretch of Chasing Vermeer

3 - Thursday March 7th 11:50 - 3:00 - Grade 6s will be walking  to Simon Fraser for the Transition Day. They will have their hot dog lunch first and then participate in the Transition Activities for the remainder of the afternoon.

What did you learn today?
We learned about and discussed the Current Event of the MoMo challenge. 
How did you show what you learned?
We talked about Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship, plans for what we should do if we see things on the Internet that make us feel uncomfortable and we revisited the poster from the Police Interpretive Center - Listening to our Head, our heart and our gut in situations like this. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will ensure we speak to an adult if we see things that make us uncomfortable on the internet. We will only visit trusted websites. Parents received an e mail from Mrs. Polski today about this current issue.
