Report Cards Coming Home

Our School Science Fair is next Thursday - Feb. 7th. Parents and families are welcome to come and see all of the projects in our gym. We ask that you come between 9:15 and 11:45 as students are being judged in the afternoon. Thanks for all your support.

What did you learn today?
We learned the importance of encouraging words before and after we try something new. We learned talent is different than skill. We learned mistakes are important. 
How did you show what you learned?
We tried a bunch of different moves and we often failed before we got it right. We found making the world very difficult but we tried over and over. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will do our performance tomorrow and be brave and make mistakes. We will get to see Teddy dance with 30 hoops.

We had a chance to compose our own songs and beats and then we got to share them with a partner and they had to try and clap it out.

We might get a chance to make a song with it or use instruments.

Great Field Trip!

We had to say goodbye to one of our fish today. It has been showing signs of not being well for a little while and when we returned from the field trip it was floating and stuck to the filter. We discussed our options as a class and came up a decision as a class. The other 7 fish are still doing well.

What did you learn today?
We learned that libraries are for way more than just reading. 
We learned how the architects made their decisions when they designed the building. 

How did you show what you learned?
We had a visit to City Hall and the Library today. We attended a committee meeting in council chambers, toured City Hall with a volunteer tour guide. Had lunch in the library and with our parent volunteers we got to explore the new library. We had a guided tour from Henry's mom and then even got to participate in an impromptu drum circle to finish our day. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to visit the library again and bring our families. There is so much to do there!!! Ask me about all the stuff we can do there when we visit!

Field Trip is Tomorrow - 
We will begin our day at City Hall and attend a committee meeting, have a tour of City Hall, each lunch and the afternoon will be spent at the new Public Library. Henry's mom works there and will be giving us a tour of this new Calgary Landmark. 
Things to Bring for tomorrow - a backpack, a litterless lunch and snacks, water bottle, don't forget necessary medications, running shoes as we are inside all day, bring your FAF notebook and a pencil and eraser. Hats cannot be worn in Council Chambers - so be prepared to remove it at that time. 
The Bus will leave the school between 8:50 and 855 - so come to school on time and ready to go. We will return to school around 3:00 pm

We learned about how provincial and bylaws are made. We learned why there needs to be 3 readings of a law. 
How did you show what you learned?
We made real life comparisons. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will get to see where these conversations and bylaws are made.

We learned about the impact of a meteorite can make when it hits the earth's surface.
How did you show what you learned?
We worked as a group with 3 different sizes of balls. We threw the balls into the snow to create a crater. We observed how different angles of impact created different types of shapes (craters) in the snow. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will continue working on our science centers and apply what we learned today to our Meteor Center with sand and rocks.

We are working on finding the pattern rule in math. 
The grade 6s used that information to plot points on a graph and determine next events. 
Grade 5s began learning how to plot points on a graph - ask my to show you how I remember the X and Y axis!
How did you show what you learned?
We completed an IMJ page and had separate lessons - which we don't often do. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will now start plotting points on graphs.

We listened to Mr. Keith's presentation - he is the AP at Branton. We took notes and watched a video. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to determine which Jr. High is the best fit for us.

We practiced different types of dribbling and pivoting. We played Friend or Foe and a layup drill.

We want to practice more skills and apply these to games. We can also transfer this to playing outside.

We started basketball today. 
We are working on our understanding of patterns in math. We looked at increasing and decreasing patterns today. Ask me about some different pattern rules we saw today.

What did you learn today?
We learned that we can argue with both sides of an opinion. 
How did you show what you learned?
We were able to apply this with the current event that Ava shared. The reporter had some strong opinions about China's rover landing on the far side of the moon. We discussed facts about this event and thought about his opinions. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to pay close attention to opinions and facts for the remainder of the current events being shared.
