Celestial Talk

Agenda:

What did you learn today?
We hoped to learn more about space today and have a chance to ask an expert questions. 
How did you show what you learned?
We had a 2 hour presentation from a local astronomer who works at the Rothney Observatory. He shared his vast knowledge and many pictures with us. 
What do you need to learn next?
We have to keep asking questions and looking up!

What did you learn today?
We wanted to learn how to be sophisticated writers and write 3 paragraphs with 3 -5 sentences to summarize what we have read so far in The Wright 3.

We wrote in our journals for 30 minutes. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need these marked by Mrs. Saunders and need to do a chapter summary for chapter 11.

Stuff It for the Drop In Center

Agenda:
1 - Permission form for participating in the music science fair project. Due by Tuesday
2 - Students did a great job of being prepared today for our quick trip outside to look at the sun and take the temperature. We noticed that the sun's position is way to the right compared to our first photos in September. 
3 -Treat Day is on Tuesday the 13th.

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We wanted to learn how it felt to be selfless and give to others who need it the most. Also, we had to be very thoughtful about our packing so we could stuff as much as possible. 
How did you show what you learned?
We filled a sock with personal items for the clients at the Drop In Center who will wake up Christmas morning to our gift. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will need to help Mark load the stockings into his vehicle on Monday morning and we'd love to hear about the impact of Dr. Coffin's generosity.

4 - For Fresh Air Friday tomorrow - we will most likely not be able to spend much time outside. However, we do want to take our Sun Pic at 11:30 so please be prepared to be outside for 5 minutes in order to take the temperature and a picture. 
5 - Be prepared and well practiced to share your presentation with your buddy tomorrow morning.

We learned how messy art can be :-)

We made our visual part to our reasons for the seasons. People chose to use paint, glue guns, plasticine, poster paper, etc.

We will share our project with a peer tomorrow afternoon and then our little buddies on Friday.

We continued our learning about our grade 1 and 2 question about longest and shortest days. 
How did you show what you learned?
We worked on our projects by using sculpey, PowerPoints, Posters, Models, iMovies and continued to research our 'Hey Google....' questions. 
What do you need to learn next?
We still need more time to complete our visual models and then we need to practice what we will say to our little buddies so that they can understand. On Thursday, we should practice with a student from our class.

We completed our Interactive Math Journal page and saw 3 different methods that we could use. Like with multiplication, we are to choose which method works best for us.

We need to focus on each method and try applying it to various word problems.

We created questions that would help us begin researching this concept so that we can understand why the length of a day changes.

We need to continue to understand what is happening and then create a model, video, poster, etc. so we can explain it to our little buddy.

We will learn/review the 3 methods and then determine which method works best for us.

We tried to explain why we need to learn Sky Science.
How did you show what you learned?
We created a list as a class together about why we think we need to learn about the Science of the Sky. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn what we need to learn based on the curriculum BUT we need to learn more. 

-      -  we need to know where we are
-       - we need to know what is around our planet
-       - when we look up in the sky we need to know what we are seeing.
-       -To be prepared for celestial objects around us and to prepare if necessary – we need to be able to develop appropriate technologies
-       -We have maturity to handle abstract concepts but are young enough to still have awe and wonder about ‘cool’ ideas
-       -We will use this background knowledge in our future careers – what if one of us gets to work for NASA, Elon Musk, Rothney Observatory Center,
