Ski/Snowboard Lessons in March - March 19 and 20 
Note from the office - In the past, the total cost of this field trip included not only lessons and rentals, but also the shared cost of transportation.   For this 2-day ski/snowboard lesson event, our School Council is covering the bussing cost for the return trip for these two ski/snowboard days, a savings of $10.29 per student.  Parents are now able to go online to their My CBE / PowerSchool account to pay this fee.  

Outdoor School in June - June 4, 5, 6 and 7
Note from the office - The Outdoor School fee of $315 ($300 + $15 GST) is now showing up on your student’s parents’ My CBE / PowerSchool Accounts.  Parents are able to put down whatever amounts they can now and on whatever intervals that works for them so that the fee is paid by the time the June Outdoor School program begins.

What did you learn today?
We learned the different types of bark and branching patterns of our chosen tree.

We went outside into the Whispering Woods. We found our special tree and determined the branch pattern and what type of bark they have. 
What do you need to learn next?
In the spring we will identify the types of leaves our tree has.

Look Up!!!

Agenda:

We learned about what the government provides for us.

We wrote down our ideas on a piece of paper and we discussed these ideas as a class.

We will look at the Provincial Government next.

We need to finish or hand in what we are working on. We would like to have homework hotel again.

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We learned that Dendrology is the study of trees. We also learned a way to mark a tree that we are wanting to investigate. 
How did you show what you learned?
We went out to Whispering Woods and marked our tree of study with yellow flagging tape.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to investigate our I Wonder statements. Some examples are: 
I wondered when was my tree planted and why is it shorter?
I wondered do trees get cold?
I wondered how a tree survives winter?
I wondered how the bark on my tree was rubbed off?
I wondered why are the trees so close together?
I wondered why my tree lost its leaves but some other trees seem to keep their leaves?
I wondered why there were so many trees growing off of my tree? 
I wondered how different my tree will look in the summer?
I wondered what my tree looks like on the inside?

We practiced it and some of the producers video taped certain parts.

We know we get to choose options in grade 7 (even the option to go to French Immersion) so this was an interesting part to talk about.

Happy Weekend

2 -  Monday we will host our own Student Vote event about the upcoming Olympic Vote. Please come Monday as an informed electorate about voting Yes or No for the Plebiscite on Tuesday. Also, encourage your parents to get out and vote and ask if you can join them.

Learning Intention
We learned a lot about items being donated to the Food Bank. 
Common Items are: soups, Mac 'n' Cheese, canned meat and fish, canned fruits, juice.
Common Packaging: Cans
Some items needed to be taken out because of expiry dates and open packaging. One can of crab had a Best Before date of 2010! 
We learned that we are a very generous school as we have collected so many items already.

Seventy - Tootle

2) Remembrance Day Assembly at 10:35 - dress nicely for this assembly and if have a uniform (like Guides, Scouts, etc.) please feel free to wear this. 

It is also Fresh Air Friday tomorrow - so please come prepared to be working Whispering Woods.

We learned how to sort all the food bank items that were brought in from all of the students of Dr. Coffin.
How did you show what you learned?
We collected the boxes and sorted them into boxes, cans and other. 
What do you need to learn next?
We have collected 343 items so far and we will continue to collect until next week.

While writing our Create a Crime Scene paragraphs, we learned that we often start our sentences with the same word. For instance, the, they, he or she. 
How did you show what you learned?
We used Find and Replace in Google Docs to see what kinds of words start our sentences.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to use 'the frogs' to help use different words to start our sentences in our daily writing.

We learned that Lil' Moe - The Fish is Missing
How did you show what you learned?
We have looked through the whole tank and can't find her. We think she might have been eaten by the others or is a very good hider. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will continue to look for her and keep our fingers crossed. We will clean the tank, feed the fish and try our best to take care of our class pets.

We had an ambassador from the Calgary Food Bank present to our 2 grade 5/6 classes.

We need to start collecting donations!

Fast Walkers!!!

We learned how to study using the library resources.

We went on a field trip to the public library. We saw behind the scenes, different areas of the library and worked in a classroom. We also got to sign up for  a library card if we didn't have one and got to sign out books. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to use the library in the future.

Library Visit Tomorrow!

Library Visit Tomorrow -
We will leave around 9am tomorrow - Come Dressed for the weather - we will go rain or shine!!!
We will return to school by 12:00.
Please bring your library card as you will need it to log on to the system and there will be time to sign out books.

You can bring a snack and a water bottle in your backpack.
