Ready to RUN!

Agenda:
1- Tomorrow is the Terry Fox Run - We will meet in the gym around 10:10am for a brief assembly to get excited and ready for the run.
The run will officially begin at 10:30 am.
We do require some parent volunteers to join us for the run, so we hope to see some of you tomorrow morning. THANK YOU in advance.
2) Please bring your toonie for Terry if you haven't done so already!
3) Check the forecast and dress in layers. Be sure to bring your water bottle and a snack.
4) Also, you will be receiving a sticker to declare who you are running for tomorrow - talk with your families about the impact cancer has had on your lives.

We learned who our buddies were today. We are with Mrs. Boyer's class. 
How did you show what you learned?
We showed them where the Terry Fox route was and we got a chance to find out something about them. 
What do you need to learn next?
Ask me what I found out about my little buddy today?

We LOVE Wetlands!!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! We can't thank our volunteers enough for being a part of our field trip today! We could not have gone without your support. The students had a wonderful day and that is thanks to each of you!

What did you learn today?
We visited the constructed wetland at Telus Spark. 

How did you show what you learned?
Each group asked a different question, chose the appropriate tools, gathered samples and conducted their experiment to answer their question. 
One Group collected various water samples and tested the water quality. 
One Group looked at various insects under the microscope.

What do you need to learn next?
We want to conduct similar experiments at our constructed Wetland in the next few weeks. 
We also want show our understanding of Wetlands through art.... what animal, insect or plant will you add to our mural?

Agenda:
Field Trip Preparation for tomorrow:
Please bring - water bottle, microwave free, litter-less lunch and 2 snacks.
Please dress in layers as we will have part of the day outside at the pond. You will want a hat as the weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow, maybe sunscreen too.
You will be bringing your Fresh Air Friday Journal and pencils with you in your backpack.

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We shared our Wetland presentations today. 
How did you show what you learned?
We worked in small groups and shared our various presentations. Some students made posters, used Google Docs, filled in a research bubble sheet, created booklets. 
Students learned that Mallard ducks are the most common animals in the Wetlands. Other students learned that grass can potentially live forever. We found out that a stinky bog can be a good or a bad sign about the health of the Wetland. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to apply what we are learning at our field trip tomorrow!

Fresh Air Friday tomorrow
3) We are going to the Nose Hill Pond tomorrow morning. You will need to dress warmly - hat, mitts, warm jacket and pants (layers are important), backpack, water bottle and a snack.  Sturdy shoes/boots will be important too. Rain boots might not be the best unless you know they are very comfy.

The pond is on the corner of Shaganappi and John Laurie.

Note from the office:
On Saturday, September 16, 2017 starting at 6 am we encourage you to go online to your My CBE Account to book your child(ren)’s conferences for a 15-minutes session either on Thursday, September 21 from 4 pm to 8 pm or Friday, September 22 from 8 am to 12 pm.  The online booking session closes at 12 noon on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

We listened to part of the first chapter and we discussed what a protagonist is.

We want to continue reading the book. We will ask questions as we go and create images in our mind as we read.

Personary Entry:
You must include:
-       Your name – last name first
-       Part of Speech (noun)
-       Definition – You may have a variety of definitions to explain yourself. You could include the following: personality and character traits, physical description, family members, hobbies, goals, etc.
-       Synonyms – words that mean the same as you (you can use the thesaurus to help you with this)
-       Antonyms – words that mean the opposite of you (you can use the thesaurus to help you with this)
-       Find the word origin of your first and last name. This could be an actual word origin you find by looking your name up on the Internet or it could be the story of why your parents chose your name.

We created a list of items we would want to see in 10 months. We tried to think of items which would be meaningful to see when we open it in the future.

We need to edit our photo and print it and we need to finish items and put them in our envelope.

What did you learn today?
We learned that many of us were nervacited! (Nervous/Excited)
We found out that other people felt the same. We used different strategies to feel calm and know that we would meet nice people and have a great first day (even though Mrs. Saunders gave us a test :-)

How did you show what you learned?
We included each other during recess activities. 
We talked to each other about our summers.
We introduced ourselves to students who are new. 
We smiled! We made jokes!
What do you need to learn next?
We want MORE of the same!
