What did you learn today?
We learned that days like today can help us build community and empathy.
How did you show what you learned?
We were understanding if some classmates and teachers chose not to wear a costume and our school parade helped us feel part of our school. While watching a movie this afternoon we made sure we had room for everyone to have their personal space and offered other options if students didn't want to watch. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to have a safe night of trick or treating or enjoying the night with our families.

Crazy, Snowy, Wet Art!

Agenda:

2) You are welcome to wear costumes in the afternoon on Monday. You are encouraged to leave your props at home. Our School Parade will be around 1:10 and parents are welcome to join us in the Learning Commons and enjoy the parade.

What did you learn today?
We worked with many different art forms today - charcoal, pastels, paint, water colour pencil crayons. 
How did you show what you learned?
We went outside to take pictures of a scene from our Whispering Woods Legend. When we got back inside we used the picture to inspire our piece of art. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to use this art piece in our story and display them  to share with the school.

3...2...1....Take Off!

Agenda:

2) Fresh Air Friday - dress for the weather and we will be using pastels or paint so don't wear your fancy clothes!

Highlights
What did you learn today?
We were on our field trip to Ralph Klein Park. We focused on how birds fly and the adaptations they have that enable them to fly. We also learned the sounds The Red Tailed Hawk and the Bald Eagle make. 
We also built mini flying devices.

How did you show what you learned?
We went through 5 stations to learn about how the design of a bird's wing was used when designing the wing of an airplane. We touched a REAL duck foot and a pigeon foot. We discovered that the bones of bird are hallow. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to apply this knowledge to a unit on Flight. We want to try and make a better plane next time too.

We had a chance to write our first test in math today. Tests are not as hard as we might have worried them to be.

We used rulers and protractors to answer questions and applied what we have learned so far. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need Mrs. Saunders to mark the tests and look at where we might need more help on a particular concept.

What did you learn today?
We are tracking the weekly temperatures on Fridays using a Line Graph. 
How did you show what you learned?
We created a graph for the year and plotted the 6 weeks we have tracked the temperature so far. Our graph goes from -20 - +28 or 30 degrees Celsius. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to continue to record every Friday and watch for differences throughout the year.

We watched the presentation from Marty Chan and learned about aspects of story telling. Also, we learned that he is a Kung-Fu master!

We heard from him about the importance of details in their writing and how to build suspense.

We are looking forward to working in Whispering Woods and beginning to write our suspenseful  stories.

We read Eye of the Crow again today. 
How did you show what you learned?
We continue to learn about the developing crime that Sherlock is trying to solve. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to find out if the person who was arrested is actually guilty. We want to know who murdered the lady and what was their motive. We need to learn more about the victim. Also, why has Shane Peacock used crows and what more can we find out about this bird.

We went outside and walked and ran on the gravel of the playground. To learn about direction and speed of travel.

We measured how many cm are in between the front of one foot and the back of the other foot. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to apply this to nature and our world around us. We would like to find an image of animal prints and try to tell the story of what has happened.

We have been working on rhythm and using The Cup Song to demonstrate this as a class.

We sit in a circle and all participated in playing The Cup Song while singing the lyrics.

What did you learn today?
We had a classroom visitor today, thanks to D-Dog and his mom!  The Giant Water Bug! Ask me all about this beautiful creature. 
How did you show what you learned?
We sketched it in our Field Journals. We read a sheet of information about it and glued this into our Field Journal. 
What do you need to learn next?
Mrs. Saunders released it at the Nose Hill Pond over lunch hour today in hopes that it can maybe survive or at least do what it needs to do for winter.

In Math, we are moving on to angles and looking at how to classify different triangles and quadrilaterals. Our Crime Scene work is nearly finished and we are 99% sure we know who committed the crime!!!

We looked at the 4 parts of blood and learned that only white blood cells carry DNA. (We also learned how to say DNA -Deoxyribonucleic acid
How did you show what you learned?
We viewed a labelled drawing of the parts of blood - red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to view the DNA from the crime scene.
