Beautiful FAF

Agenda:

1) The University of Calgary will be returning on Wednesday to introduce the Bio Reactors once again this year. We will be working with them for the next 5 weeks.
2) Grade 5 and 6 have a math quiz on Tuesday about: perimeter, area, volume, capacity, mass and conversions.  Review sheet came home today.
ALSO - grade 6s have a page of math homework to complete.
4) Grade 6 please be working through Exam Bank questions

We worked with Saakokoto in the Whispering Woods today and will get to go to Nose Hill with him next Friday.

The Volunteer Tea

Agenda:
1) Saakokoto coming for a visit tomorrow. We will also be going to the Medicine Wheel with him on Friday May 4th.

Making Delicious Bread

Agenda:
We will be having an Earth Day Assembly tomorrow at 9:15 in the gym. Parents are welcome. We will also be learning about our solar panel installation!

What did you learn today?
We learned about surface tension and how molecules let things float
How did you show what you learned?
We did an experiment where we made a paperclip float and measured how long they could float and then added soap. and then we added drops of water to a penny and counted the drops.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to learn how to pass chemistry.

We continued to work on our news articles in literacy. These articles are based on our novel study A Wrinkle in Time.  
How did you show what you learned?
We used an inverted pyramid to plan our news articles.
What do you need to learn next?
We need to finish our news articles and continue to prepare for the PATs. (Some Grade 6 students are choosing to type their news article. Please practice your typing at home.)

Jerseys for Broncos

5) The Calgary Youth Science Fair is tomorrow - City Science Fair participants will be down at the Olympic Oval all day Friday April 13th representing Dr. EW Coffin.  Viewing of the projects are open to the public from 9:00 - 12:30 on Saturday April 14th. We wish our participants the best of luck!!!

6) Grade 5 - please have your math test signed and returned by tomorrow.

Don't Do This at Home!



Agenda:

3) Jersey Day to support the Humboldt Broncos Community will be tomorrow. Students can also bring their hockey stick to lay at our front entrance. Please make sure to label your stick if you're choosing to bring it. 
WE Club students... if possible, meet at the front door tomorrow morning around 8:25 to help students lay their sticks and put names on masking tape. Thanks.

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We learned about Mixtures and Chemical Reactions today. 
How did you show what you learned?
We observed a reversible change - epsom salt and water and an irreversible change - The Iodine Clock. We knew a chemical reaction occurred because we saw a colour change! The Iodine clock is a mixture of Vitamin C and Iodine, and Hydrogen Peroxide and Starch. Ask me, why did it change colour? 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to add what we learned to the front of our Yellow Chemistry Duotang.

Relay

We had to work as a team to get across the gym to reach the pylon.

We located places that could pose a hazard and then identified safety precautions we should take.

We will need to complete our WHMIS quiz as homework tonight and we need to apply these skills during our labs next week.
