Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We learned how to look after a garden during spring clean - up. Some of us learned how to pull weeds and protect flowers. We learned how to rake and separate garbage from leaf matter. 
How did you show what you learned?
We raked and pulled weeds from the front of the school, the side of the school and in front of the portable. Check out Twitter to see us working. 
What do you need to learn next?
We can apply this to our own homes and neighbors in our community. 
We will focus on signage to protect these spaces and warn people not to walk on the stumps. We will also begin watering our new aspen trees.

What do you need to learn next?
We will be able to apply some of what we learned to outdoor school and learn more of his stories and what the messages of his stories are. We also want to remember to be thankful for what we have everyday.

We learned that the first PAT will not be as bad as we worried it would be.

We figured out which laptop we would use, we looked at the Picture Prompt and News Article information, we planned with a peer or 2 or 3. We followed the timeline provided so we didn't run out of time. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will write the real PAT on May 8th

Double Gym

Also, there are 2 questions in the textbook that are due tomorrow also.

7 - Research different paper airplane designs - we will be building paper airplanes and our first contest will be about greatest distance (long, level flight)

What did you learn today?
We learned a variety of paper airplane designs as well as experimented with different materials to design our paper airplanes. 
How did you show what you learned?
We designed, made and tested our own airplanes. We used videos and instruction booklets. When our planes didn't fly the way we wanted, we went back and fixed something and then we tried again. We also tried different designs to accomplish the same goal. 
What do you need to learn next?
We will test which designs fly the farthest! We will also look at creative designs that students have created.

What did you learn today?
We learned about the Cotoneaster Bushes and the Aspen Trees this morning. 
How did you show what you learned?
We learned from Larysa, a parent who works on the Environmental Committee for School Council. She provided us with a Slides presentation and pictures of the trees, bushes and the Pocket Gopher. 
She also shared some areas that she would appreciate some help with to keep our areas growing. 
What do you need to learn next?
We really need to focus on making positive messages on our signs and to inform our school community about protecting these trees and shrubs.

We are going to rake the flower beds, clean up the garbage in the flower beds and make signs to protect these areas.
We NEED - rakes, large leaf paper bags, and gardening gloves.
It might be rainy - so come PREPARED (footwear - rubber boots if you have them)!

We learned about the different political parties and where they stand on certain issues.

We watched the leaders of some of the parties answer questions about health care, education, and the future of Alberta (videos - see link above).
What do you need to learn next?
We need to keep researching about the political parties before our Student Vote on Monday!

Parachute Games

Agenda:

2 - Grade 5 - Show your parents the path to the largest number using addition. BUT what if you used subtraction? Multiplication? What if you tried to find the lowest number? And what if you tried division? 
 
We will go over the sheets from today in class tomorrow but you don't have to have them finished. Therefore, you may finish them if you would like to.

We will be looking at Bernoullis' Principle,  how does an airplane stay in the air and how is this like a bird?

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We learned about the areas in our school yard that will need our care and attention - front of school, parking lot, portable and our 9 new aspens. 
How did you show what you learned?
We created a list of recommendations and tools that we think we can or will need to make these spaces ready for spring and to show care for the trees:
raking leaves, mixing up the dirt using a shovel, applying fertilizer and new soil to cover roots and help the plants get the nutrients they need, cutting back the grass, watering these plants enough, weeding, 
What do you need to learn next?
We will spend the next few weeks to prep these areas and create a care plan to help these areas grow. We also need to make signs and announcements to share what we are learning and doing.

We had a lesson about studying pictures to answer questions about characters, settings, moods, genres, and also learnt how to describe pictures in order to write our own stories in the future.

We answered questions and had discussions about the different features in each picture.

We need to learn how to create our own stories using our chosen picture prompts and tools such as word webs, outlines etc

What did you learn today?
We learned that air takes up space.
How did you show what you learned?
We did an experiment where we had a beaker and a funnel. We were able to easily fill the beaker with water. However, when we sealed the beaker and funnel together with plasticine we had a harder time getting the water into the beaker because AIR TAKES UP SPACE and wasn't able to escape. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to prove that Air has Mass.
