Simon Fraser Transition Day

Agenda:
1) We will have a mandatory parent meeting for Outdoor School on Tuesday April 11th from 5 - 6 in the Library.
  Outdoor School is from May 2 - May 5th. You can be paying for this overnight field trip online and in installments over the next few months if you would prefer. 

2) Please remember to bring your items for our Family Dance bucket - we have Division 1 and 2 Boys.

3) We have our Clay For Kids Residency on Thursday April 6th. We will need a few parent volunteers, please let Mrs. Saunders/Mr. Pedenko know if you are available to help with this project for some or all of that day. We will have them again on April 12th from 11:00 - 12:00.

4)The Family Dance is on Friday April 7th

5) Our next math unit will be about Primes, Composites, Multiples, Factors and Integers.

Learning Intentions
What did you learn today?
We celebrated World Water Day today. We learned the importance of water and how waste water can be better used. 
How did you show what you learned?
We viewed videos on the UN's website. http://www.worldwaterday.org We discussed the importance of water and how lucky we are in this part of Canada to have immediate access to drinking water. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to talk about this with our families and see if there are other small changes we can continue to make as a family to take care of this important resource.

Classroom De-clutter

Agenda:
The family dance is on April 7th - Please fill in the order form - deadline extended to today. Please start bringing your items for the Family Dance Raffle Basket - we have Division 1 and 2 Boys.

Thank you so much for your contribution to treat day. It was a huge success. There are still some treats left over so bring your quarters again tomorrow. 

1) All Grade 6s will visit Simon Fraser tomorrow in the morning for our grade 7 Transition Day. The Simon Fraser Parent Open House will be the night of the 22nd. Hot dog lunch will be provided, but you may want to bring an extra snack for the afternoon. 

2) Wear Blue tomorrow for International Water Day. 

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We looked at 4 different ways to begin a story today. 
How did you show what you learned?
We did this work in our Interactive Writing Journal (at the back of our IMJ).
What do you need to learn next?
We practiced some of these in our Journal and now we need to apply these to our story writing.

Room 7 Treat Day tomorrow

1) March 21 - Our class is hosting treat day that day. Find your favorite recipe and get baking Room 7 Students. Bring your quarters. 

2) Ratio Art due next tomorrow.

3) Social - Question 1 - 7 due Tuesday. You can use recess and lunch tomorrow if you need it. 

4) Just a heads up - All Grade 6s will visit Simon Fraser on Wednesday March 22nd in the morning for our grade 7 Transition Day. The Simon Fraser Parent Open House will be the night of the 22nd.

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We are beginning our study of Aerodynamics. 
How did you show what you learned?
We reviewed the answers to our Pre-Test. We will use this as a comparison after we have learned the unit. 
What do you need to learn next?
We need to work in teams to design and teach lessons about Aerodynamics. Once we have completed the the unit, we will see how much our mark has improved by the end of the unit.

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We went to Whispering Woods to discover more about what is effecting the trees. We also noticed it on a coniferous tree. 
How did you show what you learned?
We brought various tools to start gathering information about the substance. Such as, tape measures, magnifying glasses, compasses, plastic gloves, petri dishes, toothpicks and collection containers. Once back in class, we looked at the substance under a microscope. It looks like red/pink crystals. We also recorded our observations and new questions in our Investigator Google Doc - Ask me to see what we've found out so far.  
What do you need to learn next?
We think we need to head to Nose Hill to see if any of those trees are showing signs. We also want to check the trees at our houses.

We talked about this being Canada's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary of Confederation)
How did you show what you learned?
We created posters about the family dance. The theme of the dance is Canada's Sesquicentennial. 
What do you need to learn next?
We want to attend the family dance and celebrate this important event!

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We received our Sky Science quiz back today. Some of us did not receive the results we would have liked. 
How did you show what you learned?
We had a conversation about why the test did not go as planned. 1) We realized that with PAT questions, there are things you can't study for. 2) We realized that even though this was a science quiz, it also tested our reading comprehension skills. and 3) We realized that some of us experienced test anxiety and felt that we didn't perform to the best of our ability. 
What do you need to learn next?
We are practicing how to write multiple choice questions. We are using a strategy to eliminate the definitely wrong answers. We are reviewing how to think critically about what we read and ask ourselves questions to ensure we understand what we have read. Some of us are bringing home the question booklet to review our answers.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Agenda:

1) March 21 - Our class is hosting treat day that day. Find your favorite recipe and get baking Room 7 Students.

2) Percent quiz came home last week - please review it and have your parents sign it by Tuesday. 

3) Finish the ratio booklet by Wednesday.


4) Tyler Enfield, the author of Wrush, is coming back to Dr. EW Coffin on Wednesday March 15th. You can now order copies of his books. 

5) Just a heads up - All Grade 6s will visit Simon Fraser on March 22nd for our grade 7 Transition Day. 

6) Grade 6 Farewell - Please fill in the volunteer commitment you are willing to take on and return the form by Tuesday. 

7) The family dance is on April 7th - an information package about it came home today. Please fill in the order form by March 17th. 

Learning Intention
What did you learn today?
We had our 1-Day Ski/Snowboarding Lesson today. We learned how to get back up if we fell and keep trying even when it got hard. We learned to perform a variety of skills and encourage our classmates. We learned that skiing/snowboarding could be part of our healthy lifestyle. 
How did you show what you learned?
When we fell we laughed at ourselves, we persevered and we asked for help. 
We listened to our coaches and tried the new skills they taught us, such as, skiing backwards, jumping, turning, skiing on one ski, stopping in a controlled fashion. 
What do you need to learn next?
We have been given a coupon to go to COP as a family. We look forward to taking lessons as a class again next year.
